Chris Cheeney MD
Chris, for most of his career, has worked in a finance function – predominantly as a financial analyst for a large global organisation. When his wife, Sara, set up her Aesthetics Clinic & Salon in 2008, he used this experience to really get to grips with Sara’s numbers and help her take control of the business by setting budgets and targets, without having to do it for her.
It was in 2013 that Simon Lotinga identified that clinics and salons across the country could really benefit from the level of support that Chris could provide to these business owners, and in just one phone call, the concept of CDC Accounting implementing simple financial controls and plans was really born! CDC Accounting exists today to help business owners to make more money, have more time and make the business of making money as easy as possible!
Outside of the office, Chris is married to Sara, has 2 children – Eve and Tomi, and a miniature sausage-dog called Polly. Chris also keeps chickens and pigs – he is not the typical stereotype accountant! Chris is also a keen footballer and has just set up an U7’s football team in the local area to get the young boys and girls away from the Xbox and enjoying football. Chris helps with the community as he is the treasurer for LLangollen Youth Football Club and, as mentioned, now a coach for the U7’s, on the finance committee in the School Governors at his children’s local School and also works with Cylch Meithrin (early Years children) helping them be financially stable and provide the best service to their children that they can.In his spare time, Chris also enjoys riding his motorbike.
BIG GOALS – Chris’s big goal is to one day own a Porsche 911 in Blue.
Client Experience Manager and Tax Accountant – Sophie started working for CDC Accounting in June 2016. Sophie was 22 when she joined us, and had worked in an accountancy practice for 6 years. She was a Xero expert, which was really the reason that Chris knew he wanted Sophie on board, but together they have been on an amazing journey. Sophie has been an outstanding asset to CDC Accounting, helping them implement new processes and supporting clients to really get the best out of us. Sophie has recently been promoted to Client Experience Manager, as her confidence both personally and professionally has really grown since working for CDC Accounting – she is blossoming into an approachable, supportive, confident person who can add massive value to both CDC and our wonderful clients.
Outside of work, Sophie really does have her head firmly screwed on; she has a husband, Scott; they have a son together – Edison, and even own a house – not bad going for 24, eh?! Sophie is the Personal Budget Queen, and has a spreadsheet for everything! But this truly works for her family, who have already visited some of the World’s most beautiful holiday destinations, such as: Dominican Republic x 2, Mexico x 2, New York x 2 – and they are hoping to have a new baby in 2018, which would complete their perfect family!
In Sophie’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, enjoying cinema dates, and the odd cheeky takeaway night – if the budget allows, of course!
BIG GOALS – Sophie wants to be mortgage free by the age of 45, and enjoy luxurious holidays as often as possible.
Apprentice Accountant – Abbie started working for CDC Accounting in July 2017, when she was 17 years old and hungry for a career in accounting. Chris found her through the local college accounting assessor, and when he mentioned that he was looking for an apprentice Abbie was recommended highly to him as an exceptional student who was looking for this exact opportunity! Abbie passed her exams with distinctions, and had already had jobs since she turned 16, which included hotels and hospitality, and also working closely with her Mum and Dad to assist with her Father’s disability.
Outside of work – Abbie lives at home with her parents; she has a boyfriend, Dan – and they have big plans to work hard at their aspiring careers so that they can set up home, get married and start a family together one day.
BIG GOALS – Abbie’s big goal is to be a Chartered Accountant and help businesses not only to survive – but thrive! Chris believes that this is a given seeing how well she has settled into CDC Accounting, and her aspirations fit with our ethos perfectly!
Performance Management Accountant – Sarah started working for CDC Accounting in February 2018. Chris and Sarah have known each other for the past 10 years, and have worked together in two separate businesses. previously. Sarah is a Chartered Accountant, and when Chris left his previous employment in 2014, he mentioned to Sarah that if she ever fancied a new challenge then to let him know! Chris knew that Sarah’s personality, ethics and skills would adapt beautifully to CDC Accounting, and it only took her 4 years to take the plunge – but we are glad to have her as part of the team!
Sarah’s previous role was as a Management Accountant, responsible for a £50M+ turnover company, where she would analyse the management accounts and ensure that the company was on budget, helping them make savings where they can. This fits beautifully into her role at CDC Accounting, as she is the Reporting Queen and, really analyses the businesses accounts of our clients to assist them in creating budgets and making more money from their businesses. She has already helped make strides into this role, and has come up with solutions to help all of our clients improve the numbers of their businesses.
Outside of work – Sarah is engaged to Ryan, has two beautiful children – Ozzy and Evie, and they own a house together in Chester.
BIG GOALS – Sarah’s big goal is to be there for her children, and she loves the flexibility that has come with working for CDC Accounting, allowing her to work around her family.
